Having worked in IVF for over
20 years, I’d always wanted to write something that people who had gone through
it could identify with or for those thinking of trying it could get a small
insight into what they might expect.
Surprisingly there is very little, if anything written about infertility. It’s
an area that touches so many people yet it still goes under the radar in terms
of exposure both in literature and other forms of media. In fact, if you search
for anything about IVF or infertility you generally end up with practical
guides or text books on the subject, and while all very helpful and useful
don’t really delve into the personal side of the experience. The hours waiting
for consultations or scans the long days living on tenterhooks waiting for the
results of blood tests to allow you begin treatment or awaiting pregnancy
results after treatment.
The story and characters while completely fictitious could be an amalgam of
many, many people and their own personal journeys.
I had a lot of help writing this book notably from people I worked with as an
embryologist and friends and relations who had been on the other side of the
fence as patients and I hope it goes some way to explaining the physical and
mental side of their experiences.
